Your Montana Escape Starts Here

There's a kind of quiet you can only find in Montana. The kind that settles into your shoulders the moment you step onto a covered porch with a hot cup of coffee and watch the sun spill over the Bridger Mountains. That's the kind of stay we built for you at The Cabins at Wheat Ridge Farm, a peaceful retreat for families and adventurers who need to slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect, without giving up a single modern comfort.

Planning a Montana Getaway Shouldn't Feel Like Work

You've been dreaming about this trip for a while. Wide open spaces, mountain views, real time with the people you love. But finding the right place to stay is harder than it should be. Hotels feel cramped and impersonal. Vacation rentals look great in the photos and then show up tired, dated, or missing the things that actually matter. "Close to everything" usually means long drives to the airport, into town, and out to the trailheads. Accessibility is often an afterthought, which leaves family members behind. And too many stays completely miss the soul of Montana, the land, the animals, the sunrises that turn a vacation into a memory you'll talk about for years.

You don't want just a place to sleep. You want a basecamp for the kind of trip your family will still be talking about a decade from now.

We're a Montana Farm Family, and We Built This Place for Guests Like You

The Cabins at Wheat Ridge Farm sit on our historic family farm just outside Bozeman, where we still grow hay, wheat, and barley and raise cows, sheep, and chickens. Our family has lived this life for generations, so we know exactly what makes Montana magical, and we know how disappointing it is when a trip out here misses the mark.

That's why we designed three brand new cabins with everything a modern traveler needs, set against the kind of Rocky Mountain views you came west to find. We built them thoughtfully and intentionally, with comfort, accessibility, and authenticity in mind. When you book with us, you are not dealing with a corporate call center or a faceless property manager. You are talking to our family, and we will treat you like part of it.

The Lazy Bear Cabin

The Lazy Bear Cabin is one of three new cabins available at Wheat Ridge Farm. It's a 1,000 square foot retreat that sleeps six comfortably, with two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, plus a queen size “Slofa” brand sleeper sofa in the living room. The full bathroom has a walk-in shower (no tub), and the entire cabin is ADA compliant.

The full kitchen makes it easy to cook in, and the gas BBQ grill and firepit out back make it just as easy to cook out. The living room is built for relaxing, with a television, a gas fireplace, the sleeper sofa, and large windows that pour natural light into the space all day long. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi keep things comfortable and connected. Step outside and you'll find a covered front porch and a covered back deck, both perfectly positioned for soaking in the kind of sunrises and sunsets that the Bridger and Tobacco Root Mountains are famous for. For guests staying six nights or longer, we also offer laundry service.

An Unbeatable Bozeman Location

You're never far from anywhere worth going. Local shopping, restaurants, a brewery, and a distillery are just three miles down the road. Downtown Bozeman and the Museum of the Rockies are about ten miles away, and the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is only twelve miles from your front door. Hyalite Canyon is a short fifteen-mile drive, Big Sky is forty miles out, and Yellowstone National Park sits eighty-five miles away, close enough for a day trip, far enough that you'll come home to peace and quiet.

📍 3 miles to Local Shopping, Restaurants, Brewery, and Distillery

📍 10 miles to Downtown Bozeman & Museum of the Rockies

📍 12 miles to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport

📍 15 miles to Hyalite Canyon

📍 40 miles to Big Sky & 85 miles to Yellowstone National Park

Adventure Right Outside Your Door

World-class fishing, hunting, skiing, whitewater rafting, hiking, and golf are all just minutes from the cabin. Spend your days exploring some of the wildest country in the lower 48, then come back to a quiet porch where the only sound is the wind moving through the wheat fields. This is the rhythm we hope you'll fall into. Adventure by day, stillness by night, and a whole lot of mountain views in between.

A True Working Farm Experience

The Cabins at Wheat Ridge Farm sit on the edge of a real working farm. Depending on the season, you might spot cows, sheep, chickens, deer, or even elk roaming in the distance. For kids, it is the kind of experience that turns into a core memory. For adults, it is a reminder of what a slower, more grounded life can feel like.

Don't Settle for an Average Montana Trip

For most families, a trip to Montana isn't something you do every year. It's the one you have been saving for, planning for, and dreaming about. The right basecamp can be the difference between a vacation that's "fine" and one that you willl talk about for the rest of your lives.

Picture Your Stay

Imagine waking up to coffee on the covered front porch as the sun climbs over the Bridgers. By midday, you are casting a line on a blue ribbon trout stream or hiking a trail you have had bookmarked for months. By evening, the gas firepit is going, dinner is on the grill, and the Tobacco Roots are glowing pink in the last of the daylight. That's not a brochure. That is a regular day at Wheat Ridge Farm.

A Few Honest Notes Before You Book

The cabins are brand new, and the landscape and hardscape around them are still a work in progress. We have an excitinng five year vision for this property and our hope is that our earliest guests will become repeat visitors who get to witness it come to life. Ask us about our special offers for returning guests. We would love to welcome you back.

Wheat Ridge is a working farm, and because family members with severe pet allergies stay in the cabins throughout the year, we have a strict no pet policy. This includes emotional support animals.

Ready for the Montana Trip You'll Never Forget?

Grand Opening rates are live, and we are booking up quickly. Whether you're coming for the fishing, the skiing, the national parks, or just a few quiet days on the porch, we would love to be the place you call home while you are here. Check availability for The Lazy Bear Cabin, The Wandering Bison Cabin, or The Roaming Elk Cabin, and if you have any questions at all, send us a message. You'll hear back from our family, not a front desk.

We can't wait to welcome you to the farm.

Getting Around

If you are visiting between late fall and early spring, an AWD or 4WD vehicle is a great choice for your Montana trip. The county road to the farm is plowed regularly and well maintained, so getting to the cabin is straightforward. Where AWD or 4WD really shines is on the drives you will want to take while you are here, from morning runs to Bridger Bowl and Big Sky to trailheads, fishing access points, and the scenic backroads that make this part of Montana so special. If you are flying in and renting a vehicle, it is worth requesting one when you book.
